Maintain Fisherton Recreation Ground and Ashley Open Space as multi-functional open spaces and retain flexibility of use.
Maximise the amount of space available for large scale events e.g. car boot sales.
Install play equipment in the playground suitable for children with additional needs and/or disabilities.
We did
We presented three design options for the Ashley Road area at a public information event in 2019, and then selected the most publicly favoured option. This will provide ample space for amenity uses whilst creating wetland habitat and planting more trees.
The preferred scheme maintains open ground for large scale events at Ashley Road Open Space.
At Fisherton Recreation Ground, the scheme will provide a multi-functional space. The layout accommodates a newly-landscaped channel (including natural wildlife areas) to reduce flood risk as well as providing sufficient space for a multi-use games area and informal recreational area with space for a 7-a-side football pitch.
We will improve retained recreational facilities (e.g. basketball court and a play park) and existing/diverted public footpaths in the area. The play park will be relocated from Fisherton Recreation ground to Ashley Road Open Space and provide facilities for children with additional needs and/or disabilities.
Interpretation boards, picnic areas and benches will be included in the detailed design of the scheme, together with opportunities for public art.
