Some temporary changes to car parking arrangements in the Maltings and Central Car Park area will be necessary to allow construction works to take place. This is unavoidable and has been designed with Wiltshire Council Highways in order to minimise the length and scale of the disruption.
In particular, as with all major building projects, a construction compound needs to be set up. On discussion with Wiltshire Council we concluded that the best location for this is on the northern part of the existing Long Stay car park as shown on the map to the right of this page.
In order to achieve the necessary flood mitigation for Salisbury, wherever practicable a 40-50 metre green corridor along the River Avon is proposed. This means that some of the parking immediately adjacent to the river will be permanently lost, comprising:
115 car parking spaces on the eastern edge of the long stay car park due to increase in green space along the widened river corridor.
All 39 car parking spaces in the Millstream car park as this area will be used to create a ‘pocket park’ (mini park for recreational use).
During construction there will be an additional temporary loss of up to 193 parking spaces to accommodate the construction compound and construction working areas.
